I have seen this quite a bit on goverment contracts when great developers on small nible teams get swamped by a team or project that has grown too big. Most of my government work was working on or managing smallish teams that I protected enough to let them shine, but few large organizations allow for this. Most large organizations I know only damage their developers by forcing unproductive environments upon them.

"Emblematic of this diversity as I hung out with old friends and met new ones, I was struck over and..."

“Emblematic of this diversity as I hung out with old friends and met new ones, I was struck over and over by how many people had multiple business cards — i.e. multiple lives and multiple identities. This is the first mainstream press article I have seen. Many VCs are sitting on solid funds that are cash based and looking for their solid investments as a way around Wall Street softness.

Investment firms look for liquidity action in 3 to 5 years, which should mean now is a great time to invest to reap rewards in 3 to 5 years. The markets may return quickly, or over a longer period, depending if we are at the beginning of a long slide or short-term. Either way investing now in preparation for an organization’s slow growth and smart maturation should be a great investment now for peaking in approximately 5 years. Look at services like Google, Flickr, and SixApart that weathered the last downturn or started in the void to become stong services and companies when the economy returned.

60 Minutes -
